General Surgeon Needed at the University of Connecticut
The University of Connecticut is pleased to announce our search for a General Surgery faculty member in our Department of Surgery at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor level.
We are seeking a candidate who desires an academic setting performing and teaching bread and butter surgery. We are seeking a board eligible or certified candidate who is trained in minimally invasive techniques. Our basic needs in surgery procedures are colon, appendectomies, breast, abdominal, gall bladder and melanoma. We are seeking a candidate who will work with students and residents, assisting with our residency program at the John Dempsey Hospital location in Farmington.
This is a very exciting time of expansion and growth at UConn. Plans are being made to build a new hospital tower by 2015, a new ambulatory outpatient center of 750,000 square feet and the surgical offices have been completely refurbished. Overall, the total project expansions at UConn will total over $350 million. With our location in the West Hartford area, our clinical services are expanding rapidly into all service lines at UConn. Our surgery department has sufficient volume to recruit 2 additional surgeons at this time.
The University of Connecticut pays a highly competitive salary and productivity based compensation package. A benefits package includes health and dental benefits, life and disability insurances, tax-deferred retirement compensation plans with paid vacation and opportunities for continuing medical education. Tuition waivers for dependents also are included.
Our location in Farmington, CT offers a vibrant mix of urban and rural communities. There is affordable housing, excellent public and private schools, a low crime rate, and insignificant traffic concerns. Major colleges and prep schools are nearby. Boston and New York are within two hours driving distance. In addition, Hartford has four excellent theaters, a symphony, and world-renowned museums.
Farmington is nestled in a valley and therefore, the four seasons are magnificent. There is a beautiful fall experience, winter skiing in Connecticut, Vermont and the Berkshires, and summer escapes to nearby shoreline beaches and lakes. Cape Cod and the islands of Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard are a few hours drive away and the Bradley International Airport is located just a short drive away on I-91.
